Update: Uncle Bill MacBride passed away 7-31-12

Uncle Bill's Obituary:

WILLARD S. MACBRIDE

WILLISTON – Willard (Bill) Stoughton MacBride passed away peacefully July 31, 2012 at the Vermont Respite House in the arms of his loving family.

Willard was born 88 years ago to Lloyd and Adele MacBride on July 7, 1924.  He married Minerva Schempp in 1948.  They were married 62 years before Minerva passed last September.  They lived a good life in California, Pennsylvania, New York and Vermont.

A lifelong educator, he taught middle school science, was a school principal and a school superintendent.  He was a sports fan and a die-hard supporter of the Orioles.  He created and ran the Jefferson House Bed and Breakfast with his wife Minerva for 4 years. He truly loved animals and they loved him - his life was shared with many creatures great and small.

Bill was the AARP Congressional District Coordinator for 2 years and the Retired Educator's Association Liason for another 2 years. He was a Jeffersonville Village Trustee for 4 years, the Post Commander of the American Legion, President of the Eagles Club, and a member of the Warner Masonic Lodge as well. He served on 2 state boards, one for Professional Engineering, the other for the Independent Living Fund. He was also a volunteer with the Mentor Program at the Cambridge Elementary School.

He served in the Army during World War II from 1943-1945. During his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.  He had a brief foray in to the political arena when he ran for the House of Representatives from Lamoille County.  He and Minerva sponsored the Nguyen family from Vietnam and later the Luangrath family from Laos and has been treated as a respected and loved member of their families ever since.

Willard is survived by his sister, Ruth and her family, his daughters and sons-in-law:  Karen and Bruce MacDonald and Kathryn and John Connell and by his much-loved grandson, Graeme Connell and his fiancée, Allie Jeschke.

The family would like to thank the crew on Mansfield at Starr Farm for the past three years of care and kindness and the remarkable staff at the Vermont Respite House.

There will be a service at the Vermont Veteran’s Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont on Sunday, August 26th, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
